| In the fourth movement, “Dancing, Romancing, Appreciating the Beauty” I was looking to create a mood that contrasted all the other four movements. The romance is the wonder and love of the people when they behold the world, the dragon and everything in it. If one wanted to, one could imagine this movement to be the romance between the dragon lord Lac Long Quan and the heavenly spirit Au Co, from whence the first Vietnamese people descended, though out of respect for the Vietnamese, I do not wish to claim to be capturing a mood inaccurately that is so deeply rooted in the soul of their nation. But if any true soulish connection is felt by the Vietnamese between my piece and the legend of Vietnamese history, I would be honored. |
